Cara Dillon sings "The Parting Glass"

"The Parting Glass"

Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all

[Chorus]
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

La La

But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

[Chorus]

DVI - the standard that isn't a standard?

Honestly, who thought of DVI as a video interface "standard"?

SpaceX plans to send a spacecraft to Mars as early as 2018

SpaceX plans to send its Dragon spacecraft to Mars as early as 2018, the company announced today — marking a major first step toward CEO Elon Musk’s goal of sending humans to the Red Planet. The company didn’t say how many spacecraft it will send, but hinted it would conduct a series of these Dragon missions and that it would release more details soon. In a tweet, the company indicated that the capsules would fly on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket, a bigger version of its Falcon 9; the rocket will launch the capsules to the planet to test out how to land heavy payloads on Mars. If successful, the endeavour would make SpaceX the first private spaceflight company to land a vehicle on another planet.

The new album by Mark Tremonti: Dust

Hot on the heels of their critically acclaimed and fan adored sophomore release Cauterize, Tremonti returns with the companion album Dust.

The album, which was recorded during same sessions as Cauterize, features Mark Tremonti on vocals/guitars, Eric Friedman on guitars, Wolfgang Van Halen on bass and Garrett Whitlock on drums. Long-time friend and collaborator, Michael "Elvis" Baskette, produced Dust. From the first riffs of album opener "My Last Mistake" to the final notes of the closer "Unable To See," it is apparent that Dust is not a collection of B-sides or leftover material. These ten new tracks continue to showcase Mark's hard rock/heavy metal influences alongside the material from Cauterize. Songs like "Once Dead," "Betray Me" and "Rising Storm" hold their own place as weapons in Tremonti's musical arsenal.

Nearly all new diesel cars exceed official pollution limits

Ninety-seven percent of all modern diesel cars emit more toxic nitrogen oxide (NOx) pollution on the road than the official limit, according to the most comprehensive set of data yet published, with a quarter producing at least six times more than the limit.

Christian Aid: Ethiopia Drought Appeal

More than 10 million people in Ethiopia urgently need access to food supplies and water as the country faces its worst drought in three decades.

Farmers haven’t been able to harvest any crops for two consecutive planting seasons, and supplies are dwindling.

In the hardest-hit communities, families are going hungry as they struggle to find enough food to eat. More than 400,000 children are experiencing severe malnutrition.

Without urgent funding to address the food shortages, the humanitarian situation will deteriorate even further.

Millions of vulnerable people urgently need food assistance. We must act now.

Brazil's slow-motion environmental catastrophe unfolds

Nine people are now confirmed dead, and a further 19 remain unaccounted for as a slow-motion environmental catastrophe continues to unfold following the collapse of two mining dams in Brazil’s mineral-rich state of Minas Gerais.

Eight days after the town of Bento Rodrigues was swept away by 50m cubic metres of toxic mud, a slow-moving tide of toxic iron-ore residue is oozing downriver, polluting the water supply of hundreds of thousands of residents as it makes its way to the ocean.

The Curious Link Between the Fly-By Anomaly and the “Impossible” EmDrive Thruster

About 10 years ago, a little-known aerospace engineer called Roger Shawyer made an extraordinary claim. Take a truncated cone, he said, bounce microwaves back and forth inside it and the result will be a thrust toward the narrow end of the cone. Voila … a revolutionary thruster capable of sending spacecraft to the planets and beyond. Shawyer called it the EmDrive.

Shawyer’s announcement was hugely controversial. The system converts one type of energy into kinetic energy, and there are plenty of other systems that do something similar. In that respect it is unremarkable.

The conceptual problems arise with momentum. The system’s total momentum increases as it begins to move. But where does this momentum come from? Shawyer had no convincing explanation, and critics said this was an obvious violation of the law of conservation of momentum.

The Goodies: Anything, Anywhere, Anytime

In their twelve years in our living rooms the Goodies rediscovered the Lost Island of Munga, represented the UK in the Winter Olympics, started Britain's space program and blew up the BBC.

First appearing on our screens in November 1970, The Goodies' Bill Oddie, Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor - were prime-time mainstays for the next decade. They were the fifth biggest-grossing pop act of 1975, bagged two Silver Roses of Montreux, and were so funny they caused a 50-year-old bricklayer to laugh himself to death.

Their shows, in which the trio played an agency of three bicycling blokes for hire to do "anything, anywhere, anytime", were freewheeling streams-of-nonsense in which TV conventions were upended and every silent-movie gag in history lovingly re-created.

On the 40th anniversary of the Goodies' television debut, comedian Ross Noble hops on his trandem and revisits a world of giant cats, Lancastrian martial artists, rampaging Dougals and funky gibbons.

GIVING TO THE POOR AS AN ACT OF WORSHIP: Matt Redman's Tale of Two

Friend of Compassion, Matt Redman, has been telling us his sponsorship story, his Tale of Two. Matt is passionate about caring for the poor as an act of worship. We recently caught up with him to find out more.

"Justice and social justice are a huge part of worship. Justice is on God's heart. It’s a huge way that we can display our devotion to Him.

I always say to people that if you’re engaging with the heart of God through worship, then presumably we won’t just get that heart for ourselves. We’ll get that heartbeat of God for other people.

Blue Origin. New Shepard Flight Three: Pushing the Envelope

New Shepard flew again yesterday, reaching an apogee of 339,178 feet or 103 kilometers. It was the third flight with the same hardware. We pushed the envelope on this flight, restarting the engine for the propulsive landing only 3,600 feet above the ground, requiring the BE-3 engine to start fast and ramp to high thrust fast. This video does a great job showing the dramatic deceleration of the booster. Enjoy!
